The U.S. Bishops have issued a nationwide appeal for your participation in a special outreach to Congress and a Novena for the Legal Protection of Human Life.
Many of our elected officials still think most Americans support the Roe decision. Americans do not. Contact your Senators and Member of Congress today. We are so grateful for your support and action.
Americans have a renewed focus on Roe v. Wade abortion decision following Justice Anthony Kennedy's retirement from the US Supreme Court, and for good reason. The majority of Americans have never been at peace with Roe v Wade or abortion in America. Roe did not bring Americans together as promised, it has divided us for decades. We can and must do better for women, their children and their families.
With Roe, the Supreme Court made abortion legal through all 9 months of pregnancy and for virtually any reason. Yet, a May 2018 Gallup poll shows that 65% of Americans said abortion should be illegal in the second trimester and 81% said abortion should be illegal in the last trimester. A 2018 Marist poll shows that a majority of women said either that abortion should never be permitted (9% of respondents) or permitted only in cases of rape, incest, and to save the woman's life (42%). When presented with the fact that Roe made abortion legal through all 9 months of pregnancy, the vast majority of Americans do not support, but rather oppose the policy imposed by Roe.
In closing, I urge you to review www.usccb.org/roe
