Urge Senators to Protect Life and Liberty of Conscience in Health Care Reform Bill
Take Action today!

Please contact your Senators immediately to remind them that taxpayer funding of abortion or plans that cover abortion should not be part of any health care reform legislation.  The Senate has introduced a bill and may consider it soon. Please act now!

The United States bishops have recently reminded law makers that:

No health care reform plan should compel us or others to pay for the destruction of human life, whether through government funding or mandatory coverage of abortion.  Long-standing "Hyde Amendment" protections must extend to any relevant health care plan in order to prevent federal funding of abortion and not as a temporary fix or future promise.  Federal resources must not be used to assist consumers in the purchase of health care plans that cover abortion.

Keeping taxpayer dollars from flowing to abortion in some or even most of the funding provisions of the health care bill is not good enough. Urge your Senators to stand strong until the protections of the Hyde Amendment extend to every provision of the health care bill.

In addition, the bishops urged that, “Congress should expressly provide conscience protections for those who participate in any way in health care.  Such protections should extend to all stakeholders, including patients, insurers, purchasers, sponsors, and providers.”

Abortion is not health care and taxpayers should not be forced to participate in the destruction of unborn lives. Defend life and conscience rights now by letting your senators know what you expect.
